SWINDON Town Football Club have responded to claims made by former ladies team manager Glyn Evans surrounding his exit from the club.

Evans quit his post on Monday citing broken promises and meetings he believes were held behind his back as the reasons for his departure, however, Town do not accept his version of events.

The club confirmed a meeting was held between board member Gary Hooper and the Football in the Community team to discuss integrating the ladies team further into the main club, as well as a meeting between the Town board and the separate board of the ladies team which resulted in their League Cup semi-final against Southampton being staged at the County Ground in April.

The club also confirmed chairman Jed McCrory has not been involved in discussions surrounding the future of the club’s ladies team, and in a statement released to the Advertiser insisted they maintain their commitment to support women’s football in Swindon.

The statement read: “The Board of STFC held a meeting with representatives of STFC Ladies soon after taking over the club. STFC agreed to fully support their efforts and agreed to stage their League Cup fixture against Southampton at The County Ground. Much of this cost was covered by STFC, as the club look to continually offer their support to women’s football.

Swindon Town FC remain fully supportive of STFC Ladies and look forward to further engaging with them in the future for the benefit of the Swindon community and beyond.”

The Football in the Community team are due to meet with the Town Ladies committee tomorrow night to discuss integrating the club.

Football in the Community manager Clive Maguire commented: “Jon Holloway and I met with a member of the STFC Board in early April to discuss ways of further integrating and supporting STFC Ladies.

“We have been asked to attend a meeting with the STFC Ladies committee on Thursday night and look forward to assisting them in any way we can.”

Swindon Town Ladies chairman Martin Wheeler added: “We would like to thank Glyn for his efforts during his time with STFC Ladies. Following his resignation the committee will hold a meeting on Thursday evening to discuss ways of moving the club forward.”
