SWINDON Town caretaker manager Mark Cooper will give trialist Yaser Kasim another chance to impress him in a match environment after an hour-long cameo against Birmingham last night.

Kasim, who was nurtured through the Tottenham Hotspur youth system before moving to Brighton as a teenager, has not yet got his big break in the Football League – following brief loan spells with Luton Town and Macclesfield Town.

However, he could get an opportunity to make his name in League One with Swindon after Cooper was pleased with what he saw of the Iraqi-born defensive midfielder in the first 60 minutes against the Blues, despite Town losing the game 3-0.

Cooper said: “He looked alright on the ball, he looked very comfortable. He’s started at Tottenham and he was at Brighton. He’s a good footballer and worth another look.

“He knits things together. He gets the ball off the back four and knits it together. He’s come and not trained for a while, he’s not played and he’s come in and done well tonight. You can see that he’s got ability.

“My only worry is in midfield size-wise that we’re not the biggest and I think we might need to look at that a little bit. If you look at our team at the minute we’re quite small and I think we need to get one or two in that can help us, especially in the league we’re in with set pieces and things like that.

“He’s definitely worth another look.”

Midfielder Harry Agombar made his debut for Swindon after signing what is believed to be a one-year contract with the Robins, coming on for the final 15 minutes last night, but the media’s requests to interview the former Arsenal trainee were declined by the club after the game.

Meanwhile, Cooper stressed that he was not aware of any further developments in the contractual dispute between Town and striker Adam Rooney, nor could he shed any further light on Paul Caddis’ situation.

Caddis was in attendance at the County Ground last night after failing to agree the terms of a move to Blackpool.
