SWINDON Spitfires reserves continued their pre-season with an impressive 4-2 victory over Cirencester Town reserves.

Spitfires came close to opening the scoring on 19 minutes as Kristina Digweed's long-range shot was parried by the goalkeeper.

Moments later Spitfires did find the back of the net, as Mel Bristow found herself one-on-one with the keeper and easily slotted home.

Spitfires should have extended their lead late in the opening period after they were awarded a penalty, but Morgan Whitaker’s shot was saved.

It wasn't until the 70th minute that Whitaker redeemed herself with a well-placed free kick, giving the Cirencester stopper no chance.

Two minutes later, the visitors hit back when Helen Lewis' free kick beat Shona Hanlon. Undeterred, Spitfires pressed on and Emma Pinkney restored their two-goal advantage.

Cirencester scored a second on 82 minutes, but Spitfires bounced back moments later as good work from Caroline Hook found Whitaker who netted her second of the match.

Spitfires will now take on Marlborough in their third friendly on Thursday, August 29 (kick-off 6.45pm).

Meanwhile, Swindon Spitfires’ first team mark their return to the South West Women’s League Premier Division with an opening fixture at Downend Flyers tomorrow.

New signing Mel Bristow is unlikely to eligible in time to feature and a 16-player squad has been named.

Spitfires squad: Jenna Blake, Cara Costello, Kelsey Deacon, Jess Dent, Hannah Gulliver, Hayley Huckin, Tamsin Kellett, Laura Mason, Kayleigh Reeves, Debbie Rose, Ria Salleh, Hayley Shipp, Emma Skinner, Sammie Smith, Emily Sparkes, Laura Stallard.
