SWINDON Town first-team coach Luke Williams looks set to be the subject of an approach from a Premier League club this week.

The Advertiser understands Town are preparing themselves for an inquiry from Sunderland for Williams as and when Gus Poyet is announced as the new manager of the Black Cats.

Mark Cooper’s number two only became a part of the Swindon setup over the summer but Poyet is a big admirer of the former Brighton academy boss, who was recruited by the Uruguayan when he was in charge of the Seagulls in 2010.

Williams left the Amex Stadium in June following the sacking of Poyet and his two assistants, Mauricio Taricco and Charlie Oatway, but Poyet could soon offer him a route into the top flight, with reports suggesting the former Chelsea midfielder will be named manager of the Stadium of Light outfit today.

No discussions have been had between the respective parties as yet, but it is unlikely that Swindon would stand in the way of Williams should he express a desire to move on.
