JAMIE Cox looks set to be handed a shot at the British and Commonwealth middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders next month.

Talks for a November 30 clash at London’s Copper Box are at an advanced stage and the Swindon Advertiser understands Saunders’ WBO international middleweight title could also be on the line.

The clash would mark a significant breakthrough for Cox’s stuttering career and give him the chance to re-establish himself as one of the top British prospects.

Cox last fought at light-middleweight back in June when he extended his undefeated record to 17 wins in a points success over Matiouze Royer at Swindon’s Oasis Leisure Centre.

Previously he had been out of action for almost two years since breaking his left hand en route to winning the Commonwealth light-middleweight crown.

Saunders, managed by Cox’s former promoter Frank Warren, has an unblemished record of 19 wins.

Swindon’s Kelvin Young is also scheduled to fight on the same bill when he defends his Southern Area super-middleweight title against Frank Buglioni.
