SWINDON Wildcats pair Ollie Betteridge and Sam Godfrey have been named in the Great Britain Under-20s squad for the World Championship (Division 1B) in Dumfries, Scotland.

GB will take on France, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan and Ukraine from December 9-15, with the group victor winning promotion to Division 1A.

Forward Betteridge and defenceman Godfrey are among 11 EPL players that have been selected to take part in the tournament.

“I’m so happy to have made the squad,” said Betteridge.

“Being given the chance to represent your country at any level is special and this is a very strong squad of players, so I think we stand a good chance of having a successful tournament.

“We’ll certainly be aiming to secure some silverware.”

GB head coach Pete Russell was delighted with the set of players he had put together.

He said: "When I took on the role of head coach, I said we would aim to select younger, balanced squads.

"To achieve this we would select the best players from their performance off and on the ice during the whole GB selection process.

"We have achieved this and have picked a high-energy, fit, balanced team, who will empty the tank for their country every game.

"It's a honour to be selected for your country and we have 22 very proud players who can't wait to get going.”
