SWINDON TOWN: Town confirm McCrory's resignation

Swindon Advertiser: Jed McCrory has left Swindon Town Jed McCrory has left Swindon Town

SWINDON Town have confirmed the resignation of chairman Jed McCrory with immediate effect.

A statement released by the club on Tuesday afternoon read: "Jed McCrory has requested, and the Board of Swindon Town reluctantly agreed, to step down as Chairman and Board member of Swindon Town FC with immediate effect.

"Jed stepped into the Club at a time of need and we all agree has rejuvenated the Club and the community. He has instilled pride back into STFC and the town of Swindon. As close friends and family are aware, Jed has had recurring health issues which have taken their toll over the 14-hour days he has devoted to taking the Club from relative obscurity to respectability.

"He leaves the Club having established a robust, proven business model, as well as a team that sits 7th in the League 1 table, are in the Area Semi-Finals of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and displaying some of the most attractive football in the division.

"Speaking after the Board meeting today, Jed issued the following statement: “I would like to thank all the staff for their personal support, the sponsors for sticking with the team during the difficult times and finally, the fans for supporting me. I am extremely proud to have got to know most of you. I will miss walking around the Club before the game. I will always remember the song

“He goes where he wants “, the Town End guys and the chaps in the Tap and Barrel pub; at least I opened up the Town End bar! I look forward to being in and around Swindon and having a beer with you. This decision is made with a heavy heart but I have always believed that the Club must come before the man. #inittogether, have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. See you soon!”

Who am i,

Sorry mate but that is harsh.

I have met Jed on many, many occasions. In the Legends, in Hospitality and at away games. He has always been polite and engaging. He has not damaged the Club and has introduced more positives than others. He has not, to my knowledge, done anything to harm the club and he stepped in and, yes with support and monies from others, kept us alive to date.

I have met his father who after a long chat assured me his son was very much part of STFC and wanted only the best.

Until I see eveidence - firm evidence - and not the whispers of Fredi or inuendo of others that he was less than above board then he is OK by me.

Jed has had health issues associated with his time boxing and boxing training. He has made no secret of it to those who talk to him and engage in open and honest conversation.

I wish him well and hope he visists and retains contact - especially on game days.

As they say, unless someone shows us factually otherwise then give the man a break. He kept us going and that should be enough to merit more than the abuse he seems to get.

I am not ahappy clapper nor an ostrich. Just a STFC fan giving all the benefit of the doubt first.

Good post, I'd echo those sentiments. Some of the comments on here are totally crass, impugning his reputation without any evidence to back it up is a disgrace.

I wish him well and hope he visists and retains contact - especially on game days.

As they say, unless someone shows us factually otherwise then give the man a break. He kept us going and that should be enough to merit more than the abuse he seems to get.

I am not ahappy clapper nor an ostrich. Just a STFC fan giving all the benefit of the doubt first.
i respect you opinion but stick to mine.
I don't respect yours - you haven't a clue what your talking about !

Good luck Jed - thanks for stepping in when no-one else wanted to

Thanks for bringing the club back closer to the community, and I for one wish you well in the future.....

Ignore all the negative comments - all made from sad little people .......
I couldn't give a toss what you think. Jog on
What a pillock you are - crawl back under your stone pal ........

Says it all 'at least I opened up the Town End bar!' possibly his finest hour.

Good luck to Jed but I for one am a relieved Town fan.

I seem to recall that one of the reasons Jed gave for coming to Swindon was to prevent another Luton scenario. He may have been a bit full of himself when he first took over but he did at least attempt to identify new revenue streams for the club.

Did he succeed ?

If you think he failed I suggest a quick look at the league tables just to check where Swindon Town are postioned currently.

Thank you Jed, I hope your health improves and you continue to take interest and pride in Town's future.

Did he succeed? yes by making money for himself and his cronies...ie king, hall ..some might say very clever but he was never a chairman of a pro football club, look forward to seeing club audit during his time at the club,he never put any substantial amounts of money into the club unlike power, crouch.

Seems like we are getting to the real reasons for the anti-brigade.

No money !

Look beyond the lack of investment and consider where the club could have been on February 1st 2013. Frightening IMO.
