SWINDON TOWN: Cooper expecting interest in Cox

Swindon Advertiser: Lee Cox is available for a transfer away from Swindon Town Lee Cox is available for a transfer away from Swindon Town

MARK Cooper expects there to be interest in Lee Cox during the January transfer window when the midfielder recovers from recent injury and illness.

Cox, who has played just eight times in two years with Swindon Town since joining from Inverness Caledonian Thistle, is surplus to requirements at the County Ground and has been placed on the club’s transfer list during the January window.

No approaches have as yet been forthcoming for the 23-year-old - as is the case with the rest of the Town squad, but Swindon manager Cooper thinks it is just a matter of time.

He told the Advertiser: “Money is tight in football and it’d take a lot of money to get any of our players.

“Coxy has been injured and it’s difficult because people want to know that you’re fit. I’m sure something will happen before the end of the window.”

Troy Archibald-Henville’s name is also understood to have been circulated around the Football League as being available for a loan move away from Wiltshire, while a number of Town’s first-year professionals are still at other clubs.

Cooper updated the local press on their progress yesterday, saying: “Mark Francis is still on loan at Brackley. He went to Brackley and has not played one minute’s football. We’ve tried to help them out but they’ve not played him in one minute’s football. He’ll be back with us after the weekend.

“Aaron Oakley and Alex Ferguson are at Chippenham but the weather’s not helping that because they’re not getting any games. I think they will stay there a while.”

Nobody wants Cox now there's a Cilla moment! And if Francis can't make it at Brackley well that says it all. Add in that Troy is set to go out on loan and we surely have the proverbial burgers muddle - if that is the case it doesn't look like he's set to feature for the firs team any time soon and we don't appear to be targeting another CD in the window. Ah well let's see what happens!
