OR GES Peroshi and Patrick McDonagh will make history this evening when they become the first Walcot boxers to compete over three-minute rounds when they take part in the Western Counties Final of the Youth Championships in Cornwall.

Under the new AIBA rules 16 and 17-year-old boxers will now have to compete over 3x3 minute rounds in competition instead of the old 3x2s.

Prior to the new laws only senior open class boxers boxed 3x3s.

Or Ges meets Zak Pearce from Bristol’s Empire gym in a Class A, 60kgs, match, while Patrick faces Joseph Tarrant of Torrington Police ABC in Devon in his Class A, 64kgs, clash.

Chief coach Harry Scott said: “We are travelling deep into Cornwall for this final, around a four hour journey, which is not ideal for our lads.

“They also have the three minute rounds to contend with for the first time.

“Personally I don’t like the idea of school age kids boxing three minute rounds, but there’s nothing we can do to change the situation, so we just have to get on with it.

“Walcot boxers train hard and Patrick and Or Ges are fit and ready to do a good job, so we are hopeful that they will do well.”
