5:32pm

Miles Storey has been out to speak to the local media and here's what he had to say...

"As a striker you've got to expect to have an elbow in the back of the head. You've just got to keep going and second half I enjoyed a lot.

Swindon Advertiser: Swindon's Miles Storey

"I've had a good month away at Shrewsbury, it's been good to get four starts and I needed that. I know it's only four games but I feel certain situations I can handle better.

"I think we did well. I've played with Michael once as a sub. I think he's a great player and he player well today."

5:24pm

Afraid reaction will be a tad delayed to the blog as we're all having to head pitchside as the local radio equipment has given up the ghost. Be with you as soon as we can.

HEAD TO HEAD

Swindon Town have not lost at home to Preston North End for 36 years and two weeks.

The last defeat to the Lilywhites at the County Ground occured on March 7, 1978. Since then the teams have met three times in Wiltshire, with the Robins winning two and drawing one.

2:20pm

The Preston players are out for their warm-up ahead of this afternoon's game.

2:16pm

Mark Cooper expects to see his Swindon Town squad trimmed down to a more manageable size before next season, with the Robins boss anticipating four summer signings to make up a permanent playing staff of around 20.

Swindon Advertiser: Town caretaker boss Mark Cooper gets his message across against Peterborough

TOWN BOSS MARK COOPER

“I think we’re looking for maybe four players to add to the squad. I thinkyou look at your positions and you probably have four or five targets for each position. You’ll have A,B,C and D, start with A and work your way down," he said.

2:14pm

Nathan Thompson captains Swindon this afternoon, with Darren Ward left out of the matchday squad once again.

So, Miles Storey does get his chance up front alongside Michael Smith, while Alex Smith and Ben Gladwin start in midfield.

Nathan Byrne is not fit to feature, Ryan Harley and Darren Ward are not included in the matchday squad and Connor Waldon has a place on the bench.

It's a very inexperienced Town side. This will be a very stiff examination of their composure and strength of character.

LAST TIME OUT

Earlier in the season, Swindon Town visited Deepdale and were bullied out of the game en route to a 2-1 defeat.

Jay McEveley will not want to relive events of that afternoon, during which he scored a bizarre own goal, but you might. Maybe...

1:49pm

MAN IN THE MIDDLE

This afternoon's referee is Iain Williamson and Swindon do not have a good record with him in charge.

Of the seven games Williamson has officiated in, involving Town, the Robins have won just once - and that was the first time the two met back in April 2003.

Since then he has overseen three defeats and three draws. Let's hope that run ends today.

1:45pm

Alex Pritchard’s three-game ban will give Swindon Town’s younger element the chance to shine, with manager Mark Cooper pledging to give the likes of Miles Storey and Connor Waldon gametime between now and the end of the season.

Swindon Advertiser: Miles Storey

MILES STOREY WILL GET HIS CHANCE, SAY MARK COOPER

“It gives us a chance to look at somebody who is under contract for next year. We look at it the positive way – are they ready to play a part next year,” the Town boss said of Pritchard’s absence.

“There’s obviously Miles that’s back, Connor Waldon is back and they are players we have to look at and ask ‘can they help us next year’."

TEAM NEWS

Nothing official until around 2pm but here's a quick rundown of the Swindon Town squad's state of health at present.

Grant Hall is expected to return to training next week following his recovery from a calf injury but he misses out today. Darren Ward is available after being rested last time out but he may well have to settle for a place on the bench behind Troy Archibald-Henville and Jack Stephens.

Swindon Advertiser: Town loaneee Jack Stephens

JACK STEPHENS IS EXPECTED TO KEEP HIS PLACE

Nathan Byrne is rated 'touch and go' by the club following a hamstring tear, while Nile Ranger and Ryan Mason are long-term absentees.

With Alex Pritchard suspended, George Barker could start with Michael Smith up front, while Miles Storey is expected to feature in the matchday squad.

That was a massive 3 points against a physical Preston Team. Troy and Jack were immense at the back, attacking the ball and taking it off their strikers before they could do any damage, and bringing the ball out of defence several times. Great stuff. Gladwin thoroughly deserved his man of the match with an all round action display, ran his socks off, (should put his foot in a bit more to tackle but that's me being very picky). Thought Miles gave them something to think about with his pace and caused problems all game.

Should have had a second pen, it was more of a penalty than the first one!
Didn't see what happened on the full time whistle but probably one of their players getting a bit upset cos they expected to just turn up and win, and they didn't.

best performance at home for some time, good positive passing and actual shots taken as well!

Excellent result, well done MC and the lads.

Consolidates our position as a top half team, finally expels ridiculous talk of relegation and starts to answer a few important questions about the squad and over the past 2 games TAH seems to have confirmed his position as the senior centre back, Stephens has slotted in next to him and we seem to have discovered a gem in Gladwin. If that is combined with the quality of the Thompson brothers and Fods, Ranger behaves himself and Kasim and Llonguo put in consistent performances, then who knows what we might achieve next season.

However, with only 20 players, we will need the luck with us on injuries.

To all the moaners and negative so called 'fans', that was one hell of a battling performance, Cooper has selected a team to match the northern thugs physically. I read a comment that the rest of the season was dead. We'll if as we all thought back in August when MC was dropped in it that the season would be a relegation battle. I for one would rather be where we are and safe which allows MC to plan for next season. Stick with the club, buy your season tickets and get set for a promotion push next season.

Well done Coops and the lads, good battling performance against a Preston side that were unbeaten in 12 games! if we'd defended like we have done in the last two games, we'd be up there with PNE! but Coops is learning and he deserves his chance, he should be judged next xmas! well chaps we can put relegation to bed now, it's all about building for next season and Power must get it right, cause we want to hit the ground running in August, same again at Tranny please lads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good win and performance. Defence was excellent and really stood up to the barrage of crosses and long balls. Stephens looks a prospect, Power needs to get on the phone and agree the loan for next season now.

While we're at it, we should offer Troy and Jay reduced, realistic deals based on their knee troubles, they may not accept but worth a try as they have been very good lately. Gladwin was impressive too and in general I liked the shape of the side, hoping for more games like today for rest of season now.

Exactly the sort of performance we needed to produce, positive, gritty, and up to a point just win dirty through a penalty. Lots of positives in defence, and another positive display from Troy in there with some stern tackles, no prisoners taken. We are still missing a goal machine at the front, I suspect Ranger would have had a good happy hunting time today had he been on the pitch. A bit of confidence creeping in now which will count for a lot. After Power's interviews this week and the last two games the team is now edging forwards. Surely now there is no way back for Ward, time for him to concentrate on his training badges after what has been a good career. Still a lot of room for enhancement but stick with these guys if we can.

Excellent performance and a well deserved win.
The formation and tactics were spot on today and we need to play this way from here on in.
First half was not a classic but we were the better side and the wow in the 2nd half it was clicking into place.
Definite 2nd penalty, i was sat right in line with that foul.
So we did not lose 4 in a row like some suggested and this performance should hold us in good stead for our relegation six pointer at Tranmere Tuesday :-)

Terrific match, terrific performance of character and fantastic to hear the crowd backing the team again and giving them a standing ovation at the end.

Gladwin superb, thought he looked a prospect after the first Posh Paint Pot match and he showed today he could be a real find. Big step up for him similar to Charlie, deserved a goal and look forward to seeing more. His first two passes were Hoddle quality. Impressed with both Smiths as well particularly Michael who did well against a gorilla, and yes he did win headers which Miles did not read first half.

One game I know for the youngsters but today showed they are moving in the right direction. Troy immense, Stephens good and will get better and Jay very reliable. Could see that back 3 or 4 when Nathan added being very successful next season. Said it all season, patience.

The Best we have looked for month's and actually performed as a team for once. What a gutsy display and Henville was absolutely outstanding and MOM on my reckoning followed closely by Ben Gladwin who had his best game by a country mile although he has not had much game time didn't the lad do well. We looked a solid outfit and all players deserve a pat on the back. Listening to BBC Wilts after the game and there were morons still knocking Cooper, just what planet are these clowns on never happy unless they have something to moan about. That was a fantastic win today and thoroughly deserved, yet again it seemed we were against 12 players with the ref a Preston player it seemed. Well done Mark Cooper very surprised with the starting 11 but worked a treat and credit where it is due fabulous performance. Must say Mike Smith deserves a pat on the back for working tirelessly up front and getting pulled all over the place by Grayson's thugs. What a bunch of cloggers and some nasty individuals especially their no 12 what an ape.

Blimey manc, that's a tad unnerving! He wasn't there when I left about an hour ago. Were you?

Great stuff today. We stood up to a very physical side and thoroughly deserved the win. The two centre backs have given us a solid base that's been missing all season. Superb individual and team game from Gladwin. Smith a real handful - and what a well struck penalty. The only real disappointment for me was Luongo. I think he has all the talent to be a cracking player but so often seems to lack energy. We did flag as a team towards the end, still a bit of a concern, but PNE did chuck the kitchen sink at us.

A performance like that makes us all feel so much better. Take a bow Mark Cooper - and keep up the good work. The doubters will come round eventually.

Hi Grim I thought Miles did ok he does get pushed off the ball too easily but dangerous when he ran straight at the Preston defense. He needs games and no good in and out of the side and I would like him to get a run in the side. Got some great crosses in so he must be happy to get 90 minutes. Shame you missed it Grim as this was a great team performance and every player looked like they wanted it. Very solid display and defense looked best I have seen all season.

Really good performance today was pleased that we varied the passing up more right from the off today, with some good switching of the play and some accurate long balls early doors, we were far less predictable as a result. Gladwin was key to this and he hit some lovely long passes in that opening passage that probably gave him confidence and he certainly has the talent and it seems he regularly shows this in training, I hope the crowd stay behind him if he has an off game as confidence can often be the difference and in the second half as the crowd warmed to him you could almost visibly see him grow in stature, got great reception when subbed as well. Troy was immense, I have no idea what long term prognosis is on his knees but if it seems he can continue to play each Saturday (but not midweek) got to be worth trying to retain him, maybe lower wage and appearance bonuses?? Wes was v good as well, very assured and some smart stops as usual. Stephens looks a prospect and good to have some pace back there. Also thought Alex Smith was very steady if unspectacular and good to see him putting injury behind him. Agree with others above on Luongo being the main disappointment but he is for me a very good player and maybe the amount of games he has played this season is taking its toll. A word on their 12 he should have been sent off at the end of game, already booked and had 2 or 3 pops at Yaser! I thought Miles did pretty well, his pace gives us a different option of getting in behind and he looked good second half running at their defence, put some decent balls in to, one of which should have seen a second pen. Promising performance, COYR!!

Would have to agree with you Den, I would also be delighted to be proved wrong but over 90 minutes he doesn't seem to have enough to make it at this level to deserve a new contract. Impact off the bench without a doubt he has pace and has proved himself to be useful, but yet to see him start a game and impress.

Good thing that Harley was injured, opening the door for Gladwin who was immense today.

Top stuff.

Season ticket renewed x 4.
Would agree with what you posted, but still think Cooper could have made substitutions a lot earlier than he did and even then he only made the one. There were some very tired legs at the end and it was quite plain to see Nathan and Luango were completely knackered and we were put under immense pressure to hold on to our lead.

Felt terrible as Ill but made the journey.
Glad I did as I watched a young side play really well.
Hanging on a little at the end but could have put the result out if site.

Some good performances today with more quality in the final third which had been lacking the last few games.
Thought Smiffy up front held the line very well and the midfield done well against some cynical tactics from Preston.
Similar to what I witneseed at their place earlier this season.

Wow wasn't expecting that what a performance, and bar the last 10 minutes where we defended stoutly we looked by far the better team.

Troy and Stephens excellent again - ably supported by Jay and Nathan. Troy really is a unit and decent with the ball at his feet too.

Gladwin well for me that was the individual performance of the season, maybe with the exception of Mason v Crewe. Someone mentioned the JPT game v Posh well in that game I thought he looked a bit predictable and didn't get his head up when dribbling, but today he had his head up, attacked the opposition but also had a great array of passing, long and short. Excellent stuff. If he can keep that level of performance we may do well to hold onto him, it was that good. Standing ovations when taking corners don't happen often....

Michael Smith had a very good game too, was a handful all game and held the ball well enough I thought although a tough game with the physicality.

Disappointed with PNE, they were just bog standard long ball merchants, expected better.

Storey played his part he looks to have strengthened his upper body a bit and had a good game. First time he has played with Smith, I expect them to improve together and his pace does give us another dimension. He put a great ball across for Smith for the stonewall 2nd pen that incredibly wasn't given.

Thought apart from that the ref had a decent game all in all, that was the only crucial decision he got wrong.

Again credit to Cooper the only slight criticism I would make is that he could have made a few subs a bit earlier, Alex Smith was dead on his feet after 75 mins and Luongo looked tired too.

Great performance though, very pleased I took advantage of the 10% discount now.

As with all that attended the game I thought Gladwin was outstanding yesterday, before the Preston game I had my reservations, but always said I would reserve judgement until I'd seen him in his best position. I think we saw that yesterday playing across the midfield doing just about everything right one would hope to see from a town player If he can continue to put in performances like we saw from him totally dominating the midfield then I would say he's got a great future. He must have been an unknown quantity for Grayson as he had no answers to his power play.

It is not just here where fans will not give a player a chance, some players take longer to "hit it off" than others.

Think power should be concerned on the attendance figures
7,1/2 k for that match is atrocious bearing in mind about 6k s/t, even away fans clearly won't pay £25 as a big chasing promotion club, only 540 I'm sure that's mainly down to cash rather than the long journey.

£25 is a lot of money but is nearly the going price i am afraid, given the choice i'd rather pay £25 at the County Ground than say £23 at Leyton Orient and a lot of teams in this league.
Like i have said before rather have smaller crowds getting behind the team like yesterday than bigger ones that just sit there moaning and waiting for things to wrong.
Also hence the smaller playing squad next season, good business acumen from Power IMHO.
Preston brought more last season and i thought there support was shocking, both numbers and support,to be honest.

Grim, I have no idea why you get minuses for that post. It was a very poor crowd. Must be a concern for Power. Not surprising though. You're probably right about the £25. It's a lot of money for our fans as well as theirs, especially when you consider how awful the fare has been recently. We need more performances like yesterday's to get people back through the turnstiles.

Den, as usual you have called it about right. The last 12 games have not been an easy watch, far from it. Many have become disillusioned and who can blame anyone for that. Yesterday was another example of expecting the unexpected and the win came our way. At the kick off many of us didn't see this performance coming, not in a million years but it did, and am I ever glad.
Two clean sheets, and in both games if we had anybody that reassembled a goal getter we could have been emphatic winners by at least three or four goals. Sad to say we are better without Ward and Hall, and they should both now be kept out of the starting 11.
I guess there were only around 7k Town supporters there yesterday. To come good on crowds now we must at least keep a clean sheet for the next two games, dig in, dig deep and get points. If we are able to do that then a few will start drifting back. We should have had 8,500 home guys there yesterday to make things viable enough to take things forward.
I forget who he was but a 20 year old was making a good impression last night on MotD, or was it on the Claridge show, I forget, but at 20 he was doing very well, which dispels Coopers basic excuse.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "Merseyside Police has arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of causing criminal damage following an incident in a taxi this morning.

"The man, from Middlesex, was arrested after damaging a taxi during an argument with the taxi driver in Water Street Liverpool city centre at about 6am this morning.

Like a few on here i am concerned about the fitness and we can only assume that Cooper sees this also, but what i will say is that Preston seemed more tired than us!
Think power should be concerned on the attendance figures
7,1/2 k for that match is atrocious bearing in mind about 6k s/t, even away fans clearly won't pay £25 as a big chasing promotion club, only 540 I'm sure that's mainly down to cash rather than the long journey.
Thanks den you get me and others don't, they wouldn't know a wind up because they get trapped in all this I'm the only town fan(them) who can have an opinion ( which must be positive) I don't buy that as you know, made me laugh about your cooper out comment, some people actually thought you ment it lol. That's why (some) swindon people are classed as thick and always will be lol.
Me and you will agree/ disagree share happy times bad times and all the rest they chuck at us, but we are swindon town fans with passion and that's all we ask back.
It do tickle me the likes of cookie43, we are pants and a few others who always comment on my post, but has absolute nothing to contribute about stfc or anything regarding football in general simply because they don't go ( but could I care ?)
One thing I'm sure all town fans would agree on is that hall and ward haven't been good enough, which cooper ( or power) should have addressed on the 1st of January, by cooper telling us the team were good enough is not except able
Maybe they just didn't like the joke!

The Ranger story is interesting, if only for the fact that he gave a Middlesex address. A couple of months ago he gave an address in Swindon town centre. Has he moved back to London already?

Great performance yesterday but what I find disappointing about this forum now is that the knockers don't acknowledge it.

Speaks volumes.

Quite a few scouts sat by us in the Arkells on Saturday and they were raving about Gladwin and eventually asked us where he came from,? Marlow Town we told them and after that display I would guess he is firmly on their radar. What a performance by the lad who was simply fantastic and gave a magnificent power display. There have been plenty of scouts at recent games and I know some admitted they were from Bolton and looking at Pritchard. I would guess on Saturday they were looking at a few Preston players but left with one name in particular in their note pads. For Me though Troy Archibald Henville was MOM and simply outstanding and for a guy carrying a knee injury he is playing beyond the pain barrier obviously. He has to be one of the best defenders in this Division and I just pray the guy can return to full fitness.

One of Paolo's better signings such a shame his time with us has been blighted by injury. Love to see him here next season and perhaps a contract to suit both can be sorted, the payment to Exeter based on appearances may turn out to be a small price to pay.

Wish him all the best with his career either way and hope his knee can be sorted.

Well done Cooper, excellent team selection and set up today.
Did his homework and matched the physical nature of PNE.

Good thing that Harley was injured, opening the door for Gladwin who was immense today.

Top stuff.

Season ticket renewed x 4.
Castle9 from Bath,

I trust you have not renewed 4 season tickets just because we won a match?

By the law of averages, we were always going to win a match again eventually, were we not please?
Hey Ho!

Only got minus 29 for the above quote, not nearly as bad as my minus 67 for 'Sell Fods, buy Ajose', only time will tell, but when we made NO attempt to keep Ajose, the lack of ambition was written all over the walls at the back of the stands and very few on here could see it!!!
