Cooper keen to cool play-off chat
SWINDON Town manager Mark Cooper is still leaning away from talk of the League One play-offs, despite watching his side move to within a point of the top six with their third consecutive victory on Saturday.
Goals from Miles Storey and Louis Thompson helped the Robins beat in-form Sheffield United 2-1 at the County Ground, with the result propelling Cooper’s men into seventh place in the league table.
Peterborough United, who have two games in hand over Town in sixth spot, still have control of their own destiny, and Cooper is happy to use the old cliché of taking each game at a time.
He said: “We’re finishing the season as we wanted. I wanted a strong finish to give us optimism for next year and we’re just looking at the next game. We’ve got a really tough game and a long trip to Carlisle next week.”
“We’ve just got to go and play and try to win the next few games. That’s all we can do. We’re in a situation where we’ve just got to try to win as many games as we can. That’s all we can do.
“I think when you look at the season and the personnel we have it’s difficult to get those spells because they’re young and still learning. When you look at Sheffield United they have vastly experienced players, they’ve been there and done it and they know how to win games.
“Ours are still learning. I’m pleased with the way it’s gone.”
