PURTON skipper Elliot Hill is spoilt for choice as his side kick off their West of England Premier League Wiltshire Division campaign against Trowbridge tomorrow.

Hill has had a busy summer reinforcing his Purton squad and three late-spring recruits have buoyed the skipper ahead of his team’s return to the WEPL.

Kamlesh Shah, a destructive middle order batsman, has joined from Lechlade, swing bowler Ed Holdaway has relocated from Bristol and Adam Clatworthy, a useful all-rounder, has arrived from Cirencester. With Akarshit Gomel and Tom Bowler already in place high in the order, Hill now feels he has a pretty potent top six.

“The great thing with Kam and Adam is they add a lot of depth to our middle order. Obviously we’re pretty explosive with Akki and Tom in the top three and then, with myself filling in the middle order with those two, we should have some strong depth which should mean we can post some big scores and apply pressure with the ball,” he said.

“Ed gives us a lot of options, either with the new ball or through the middle orders - he can field and bat a bit as well. Hopefully the tail, with the likes of Tom Fullalove who likes to think he can bat as well, will wag.”

Hill is happy enough to deal with a selection headache this season, with the number of experienced players at his disposal.

He said: “It causes other problems but I’m sure any cricket club will vouch for the fact that these are the nice problems to have when you’re trying to run a side. Obviously there are only 11 spots in the first team and the strength can filter down into the seconds and the third XI.

“The club is going in the right direction. There’s a lot of hard work going on off the field but we’re certainly going in the right direction, with the players we’re attracting. I’m pleased we’re attracting these players and it shows we are doing the right thing.”
