HAVING put together a squad which includes a number of players capable of plying their trade at a higher level, Wootton Bassett Town manager Jeff Roberts was left disappointed.

The Bassett chief is currently trying to secure a budget for next season that will help him add some extra quality to the Corinium Stadium side after their 14th place finish in Hellenic League Premier Division.

While Roberts has stated that a number of his players are capable of playing the Southern League, he felt that some of his squad didn’t give their all through the campaign.

“It was a disappointing season,” Roberts said. “Some of the players under-performed.

“I have had some of the players in the past and I felt that I didn’t get 100 per cent.”

With Bassett set to start work on their new home at Ballards Ash, they have just completed the first season of a two-year stay at Cirencester Town.

Although their was never any danger of Town being in a relegation battle, Roberts is keen for his side to show more consistency.

“We struggled for someone to put the ball in the net,” Roberts said. “If we are to push this club towards the Southern League, which we want, we need to strengthen.

“There have been a number of meetings with the committee and I’m hopeful that we can add to the squad over the summer.

“The key thing for everyone is that we don’t go overboard - don’t do anything that would harm the club.”
