Sherman founds the Indy half marathon tough

ANDREW Sherman admitted it was a really tough day at the office when he tackled his second half marathon in Indianapolis last weekend.

The Swindon Harrier went into the race in his adopted home city with high hopes after making an impressive debut at the end of last year with a time of 65mins 57secs.

But those hopes were dashed as Sherman finished 11th – though he had nine Kenyans and a Moroccan in front of him – in a time of 66:20, which is respectable but short of the sub 65 minutes that the GB junior international had in mind.

He said. “It was a tough race and I found myself running solo for 60 per cent of the time. Also taking in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for two to three miles was extremely tough mentally.

“I was really hoping for a personal best and to improve on my debut last November but some days things just don’t go according to plan.

“It was a solid performance but there is more to come.”

Sherman will now ensure he is fully recovered before resuming training and then look to race again at the end of the month.
