STEVE Kirby and Will Gidman are the latest county cricket stars to confirm their involvement in this weekend’s T20 charity match at the County Ground.

Somerset speedster Kirby and Gloucestershire’s Gidman will join Jon Lewis, Hamish Marshall, Alex Gidman and Craig Miles in turning out alongside a host of local cricketing talent in aid of End Polio Now on Sunday.

Kirby, 36, has captured 572 first-class wickets at an average of less than 30 during a distinguished 18-year career, while Gidman - who spent time at Goatacre last season - has two County Championship hundreds and 14 half-centuries to his name.

As well as the four other pros, the pair will be teamed up with the likes of Purton’s India Under 19 international Akki Gomel, Swindon seamer Matt Kidd and Goatacre veteran Kevin Iles for the event, with the match due to start at 2pm.

Former Swindon Town defender Phil King will be dusting off his whites and striding to the crease, while Advertiser chief sports writer Sam Morshead is also set to take part.

Entry to the game is priced at £5 for adults and £3 for juniors and OAPs, with proceeds split between the chosen charity and the cricket club.

Having received significant backing from prominent local businesses, including Excalibur, Richard James Estate Agents, Arkell’s Brewery and Deacon’s, the club will be providing plenty of entertainment and refreshments to keep the whole family entertained over the course of the afternoon.

Children’s rides, a hog roast and barbecue, an ice cream stall and a beer tent will all be available, while car parking can be found in the County Ground car park.

Entry to the event will be via the gates from the County Ground or via the main entrance to the club off County Road.
