THE Swindon Town squad are set to be given a thorough examination this week as they spend the next few days being put through their paces by the Navy.
Manager Mark Cooper has taken the squad to a base on Thorney Island, near Portsmouth, where, from today, they will be put through a series of fitness tasks and teambuilding exercises.
The training camp will also involve pre-season matches with Petersfield (Tuesday) and Eastleigh (Thursday) with Cooper looking forward to seeing how his players cope.
“We’re going to play two games while we’re there, we’ll train very hard and let the PTIs get their fingers into the players and I’m thoroughly looking forward to watching it,” he said.
“As a player, when I was at Bristol City, we used to go to Hullavington and I can remember it being a real laugh but hard. It was teambuilding and things like that.
“I’m certainly looking forward to it. It will be good to get the players away for a few days, play a couple of days and do some work with them.
“We’ve still got fitness work to do. From the start of pre-season we have six weeks to get it all into the players.”
