CRICKLADE’S Laura Halford is hopeful of finishing amongst the medals as she prepares to get her Commonwealth Games underway this morning.

The teenage rhythmic gymnast is representing Wales in Glasgow, and begins today with the team event followed by the all-around competition tomorrow and the individual disciplines on Saturday.

With a host of medals available to her, Halford is hopeful of adding another prize to an already impressive year which already includes the British senior all-around title.

“I would hope that a medal is a possibility but I just want to focus on doing my performance and my routines well,” she said.

“If I go thinking about medals then it’s extra added pressure, but if I just concentrate on doing my best then any medal would be a bonus for me.

“There are a few chances to get a medal and as a team, if we do good, clean, routines then we have a good chance of winning a medal.

“It’s been a good year so far and thinks have gone pretty well, but if I can do well here and maybe get a medal it would be amazing.”

Halford’s Esprit clubmate, Stephani Sherlock, is also in action today as she represents England in the team event.
