TOWN’S players will not be too concerned by their failure to score in a game for the first time since August, according to Nathan Byrne.

The 1-0 defeat at Crawley’s Broadfield Stadium back in the opening month of the season was the only other game before Saturday’s defeat to Doncaster Rovers where Town had failed to find the net.

That impressive run was ended by a Doncaster side who rode their luck and defended deep, although a large portion of Rovers’ clean sheet came down to their hosts’ ineptitude in front of goal.

Notably Michael Smith, Jonathan Obika and Andy Wiliams all spurned good chances to score, with teammates, Byrne included, contributing to an on-target shot count of just two.

The wing-back dismissed the issue afterwards, insisting those missed opportunities are evidence that their approach was not too far away from being successful.

“If you look at the chances we had, the penalty save, Willo (Andy Williams) unluckily missed one and Nathan Thompson had one blocked off the line. On another day two or three of those go in and it is a completely different story,” said Byrne.

“There are a lot of positives that came out of the game. We’d be a lot more worried if we weren’t creating these chances but we are so it’s one of those ones where you have to move on.

“It is very frustrating (when teams come to stop you playing) but we haven’t got this reputation for no reason. Especially when teams come here with our crowd and the way we play, they can’t really come out and impress on us and play their game because eight times out of 10 we’ll pick them off.

“It worked for them (Rovers) but I thought we were very unlucky but these things happen.”
