SWINDON Town Supporters’ Trust chair Steve Mytton was delighted with the response to the direction he and his fellow board members are taking at the group’s annual general meeting.

The Trust has grown considerably over the last year, from little over 100 members to more than 1,500.

Since announcing their 1,000th member last year, the fans group have taken considerable strides to raise their profile with a number of eye-catching schemes.

As part of their school partnerships programme they filled the filled the oft-dormant Stratton Bank with 3,500 school children and parents. More recently they undertook the first steps to put a roof on and refurbish the same stand.

Mytton has a grand scheme for the Trust and was pleased with the level of interest shown at the AGM.

“It was a really positive evening in that everybody that came along and gave up their free time were all really keen to interact and express what they wanted to see at their football club, which is ultimately good things,” Mytton told the Advertiser.

“A lot of the stuff we do is driven by our Trust Vision. We created an AGM pack which will go out to all member and will be on our website to download.

“The idea is that we have a business plan that we work to every year and we monitor that on a monthly basis to see that we’re always moving forwards.

“The one key component of what we do at the Trust is that vision of where we want our club to be – not where we want the Trust to be – in five years time.

“That involves having a packed stadium, with a passionate group of supporters, a stadium to be proud of, with state of the art facilities, a family focus, with the schools bringing through the next generation of Swindon Town fans and players.

“Ultimately what we want is for the stadium to be full every week and to have a great atmosphere, the schools programme is really paying off, with 600/700 on the gate for the last game. Stuff like that will pay off in the long run.

“It’s a long term strategy and the strategy is working.

“It about eight month we’ve increased to about 1,500 members now and all of those are not going to turn up to our AGM but that consistent message will go out to all our members.

“We’re here for Swindon Town to build a strong football club that can withstand anything.

“What we want is success on the pitch – which Lee Power is bringing – but off the pitch we want to reengage companies and for the community to pull together and support our fantastic football club.”
