MARK Cooper believes his Town side still have momentum going into the season’s final month.

Swindon will not have played for 18 days by the time they line-up against MK Dons on Saturday and their performances after extended periods without a game have been erratic.

The international break in September was followed by a strong series of results. Though that ended with another international break in October, preceding a run of one win in five.

A pair of two-week spells without a win in December were bookended by a victory and a loss, and January’s extended time off and trip to Tenerife was followed by Town’s worst run of the season, with four defeats in five.

The three victories prior to Swindon’s most recent break gives Cooper confidence going into Saturday’s big clash. Though even he admits he does not know how his side will react to the time off.

“We’re in good momentum, we’ve won three on the trot - we can’t much better than that,” he told the local media.

“We’re confident after our little blip but the next game is all we can worry about. We can’t worry about a game in two or three weeks time, it’s purely and simply Saturday.

“I don’t think we’ll know (if the break has helped) until we’ve played the game on Saturday or maybe Tuesday.

“We’ve had breaks before - after some breaks, we’ve looked good, after some we’ve looked sloppy. I don’t think we’ll know until half an hour into the game on Saturday.”

The MK Dons game marks the first in a period of fixtures that will see Swindon play every Saturday and Tuesday in April. The Town boss admits it will be tough, but the prize will be worth the pain.

“It’s a lot of games in a short space of time but there’s a lot of teams in that position. We’ve got to get our heads down and cope with it,” he added.

“There won’t be an awful lot of training done. It will be more about recovery and making sure we’re fresh for the games. The prize at the end of it is worth going through that for certain.”
