DAVID Howell has claimed he is in the form of his life as he looks to secure his second BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The 39-year-old has picked up three second-place finishes in his last seven tournaments, the latest coming on Sunday at the Open de España when he was pipped to the win by James Morrison after going into the final day joint leader with his fellow Englishman.

Despite not being able to turn the good weekends into wins, Howell is not concerned and believes that the win is just around the corner as he tees off today in the tournament he won back in 2006.

“I am feeling great and I am delighted with how I am playing,” Howell said. “Of course we are out here to win, but just because you don’t doesn’t make it a bad week.

“I lost in two play-offs and then I finished fourth here in 2005 and that was my most consistent short range run up and I have pretty much matched that in the last few weeks.

“So I am, in some ways, in the form of my life but those wins haven’t come, they will come - they have come before.

“I haven’t walked away from any of the events upset with how I have done, or how I have held myself.

“I felt more comfortable each week and I felt my most comfortable last week and probably played the worst golf for a stretch of holes.

“There are vagaries to golf, you can’t always seize the moment and I think if I keep giving myself the opportunities then I will walk through the door eventually.”

Despite his good run of form Howell is under no illusion that he will automatically play well this week, having missed the cut in the last three years.

But the Broome Manor pro will be full of confidence as he takes to the first tee at 1.15pm.

“I haven’t played well here for a few years, but I have not been in this sort of form either,” he added.

“It is always a balance between soaking up the confidence when you are confident without being blasé or cocky.”
