SAM Ricketts has said that his future is unclear at the moment but admitted he would be open to a return to the County Ground if the opportunity presented itself.

The 33-year-old joined on loan from Wolves at the end of March with Town going through a defensive shortage due to injury and suspension.

The Wales international was born and raised locally and at the time of his arrival described the move as like coming home.

Ricketts has divided opinion amongst the Town faithful since his debut as a holding midfielder against MK Dons.

However the utility man has not ruled out a return to the County Ground though he admits he has not yet discussed it with manager Mark Cooper or chairman Lee Power.

When asked by the Adver about his desire to return to to Swindon for next season he said: “Of course.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and enjoyed the style of football that Swindon play, it is a really enjoyable way to play.”

Having had the big iceberg on the horizon of the play-offs to prepare for, discussions beyond Rickett’s now-expired loan spell were not possible.

However now the season is over the Wolves man will have time to assess his options. Though wherever Ricketts ends up he has adored the opportunity to play for his boyhood club.

“We have just been focusing on the play-off final and seeing what happens,” he added.

“We’ll just have to wait and see and see how the summer goes and see what comes about.

“I have loved my time at Swindon.

“I think there are some tremendous players here that have huge potential.

“Obviously now they are exciting young players, but they will go on and represent their country and play Premier League football for sure.”
