CHIPPENHAM’S Yan Klukowski is looking forward to testing himself against the skills of Swindon Town when he lines up against them from Newport County this evening.

The 28-year-old scored a late consolation goal for the Exiles when the two sides met at the same stage of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last season.

County were on the wrong side of a 2-1 defeat at Rodney Parade that evening and Klukowski knows his teammates are in for a tough challenge if they are to reverse that scoreline tonight.

“If it is anything like last year it will be a great game,” he said.

“They (Town) played a strong side last year and I thought they were exceptional in the way they played football.

“It is a great attacking brand of football, a great passing style, and I am sure that they will bring that again tonight.

“We have got to start the game well and keep ourselves in the game, but it is always good to test yourself against players from higher levels.”

Terry Butcher’s side are yet to taste victory this season following a turbulent summer for the south Wales outfit, with chairman Les Scadding resigning and a number of players heading for the exit door.

However, Klukowski says that Swindon would be naive if they took County lightly based purely on their results, having given Championship side Wolves a scare in the first round of the Capital One Cup when they opened the scoring in the sixth minute, before eventually going down 2-1 at Molineux.

“It is a good chance for us to try and get that first win,” added the midfielder, who has been given a more defensive holding role this season.

“It doesn’t matter whether it comes in a cup competition or the league, any win could spark off a good run.

“I honestly believe that anyone who has been watching us in the last five games would say that the results don’t really tell the full story.

“Although we have lost and drawn games, we have been quite dominant in a lot of those games in terms of the way we are playing and possession.

“It is just a case of turning those good performances into wins. We don’t want to be known as a side that plays good football and loses.

“Individually, we have to win our own individual battles and, if we do that, then we have a good chance of winning the game.”
