Walcot ABC’s Annual Presentation Evening at the County Ground Hotel saw the departure of long-serving Chairman and Coach Dave Veysey.

After 22 years with the central Swindon club in many capacities, Veysey has decided to call it a day due to increasing work and family commitments.

During his tenure, Walcot have scaled the heights of amateur boxing success, the pinnacle being Jamie Cox’s Commonwealth Games Gold medal in 2006, as well as having numerous national schoolboy and junior champions.

The cream of this season’s crop is 17-year-old light-welterweight Said Eltuyev.

The former Schoolboy Champion just lost out in the national finals of the England Boxing Youth Championships by a split points decision.

He was also England’s first reserve for the recent European Youth Championships in Russia.

The Best Junior accolade was won by Alex Masters after a very successful first season for the 12-year-old.

Walcot’s most successful-ever female boxer –17-year-old Jordan O’Donoghue – won a Special Achievement award after an unbeaten season where she was selected for an England Youth Squad.

Jordan’s sister Paris, 12, won the most improved boxer award after a gritty display on Walcot’s Spring show.

Chief coach Harry Scott said: “We are very sorry to lose Dave Veysey but we wish him all the best in the future.

“Although this season was not one of our best, we have around 30 talented young boxers, who are improving all the time and are eager to do well.

“The next couple of seasons look like being very exciting."
