LAWN Senior Ladies have been crowned champions in the South West over 40s Master Tournament for the second year in a row.
The competition took place on Sunday at Paignton in Devon and featured a total of seven teams from across the region.
Round one saw Lawn come up against the Titans, Lawn played a hard fought game, but they got what they were looking for in a close 10-7 victory.
Up next were Bridgwater, but they were soon dispatched in a comfortable fashion when the game finished 12-3.
Yeovil were the next opponents for the Lawn ladies and they provided a much tougher test, however, the Swindon side ran out 10-7 winners.
The next two rounds were a mixed bag, a high-scoring game against Hawks Tor demonstrating their dominance on the court, winning by 10 nets in a 17-7 finish.
It was then the final match before the penultimate title decider, Taunton were a much stiffer test, but Lawn were able to dig deep and see out an impressive 12-7 win.
The prize for the Taunton win was a shot at the title against Galmington. Lawn failed to capitalise on early chances they created and they were soon made to pay when the opposition went 2-0 ahead.
This didn’t stop the Lawn side, who were desperate to retain their title. They soon pulled level at 3-3 with an impressive performance.
Galmington were then penalised allowing Lawn Ladies to take the lead after a well-worked goal before the interval.
Lawn came out strongly but were pegged back when Galmington scored to make the match 5-5 with time running out.
The teams continued to trade blows before Lawn scored the final goal making it 9-7 to wrap up their second consecutive championship.
