SWINDON Storm’s Julian Myles is certain that his side won’t allow their season to peter out with a whimper after finally returning to winning ways last weekend.

The Storm, who recently parted ways with head coach Colin Branagh, have seen player-coach Andy Wilson step in for the remainder of their BAFA National League SFC Two West campaign, but on Sunday, they brought a five-match losing run to an end with a 23-7 victory at the Jurassic Coast Raptors.

Myles, who is currently deputising as defensive coordinator, believes that he and his team-mates will be up for the fight in their final two fixtures.

“There have been a few things going on in the last few weeks but we didn’t want to just give up and not try for the rest of the season,” said Myles.

“Colin left and the club felt that we needed to go in a different direction because of a poor run of results but on Sunday, we went there missing a few players, with lots of people playing in different positions, and everybody stood up.

“We all battled and we’ll have to do that again when we go down to Cornwall (on July 23) and then when we go to Oxford (on August 14).”

Dan Thorne squeezed over for the Storm’s first touchdown, with Luke McEnroe adding an extra point, before Callum Elder seized on a fumble and allowed Alwyn Thorne-Griffith to run home a 70-yard score, McEnroe adding the extras.

Storm got quarterback Thorne into the end zone again in the second quarter to take a 20-0 lead and McEnroe’s 30-yard field goal rounded off their total.

Igors Bugajs’ interception prevented one Raptors score but the hosts snatched a late touchdown as they turned over possession, despite the referee’s whistle coming after Swindon had snapped the ball.
