SWINDON Town ladies were unlucky to come away empty handed as they were beaten 2-1 by Coventry United.
Town went into the game on the back of a penalty shoot out defeat to West Ham United in the FA Women’s Premier League Plate last weekend.
Manager Steve Robertson told the Adver there was plenty to be positive about despite the negative score-line.
“I feel really good actually, very positive, that was more like it. We have definitely come here and put the frighteners on a team who are flying high,” said Robertson “We came here with a game plan which was to be disciplined across the pitch, the first half we knew they were going to dominate the ball.
“We had to make sure that we didn’t give them any clear cut chances, they had one or two but the opening goal came from a shot which she scuffed so he floated towards the back post and got headed in.
“It was a bit of a sucker punch, because we kept them at bay for most of the half, I felt but they were knocking on the door a little bit.
“Then we had five minutes where we were feeling sorry for ourselves they got in down the right crossed it in and the girl has finished well.”
They then went into the break two goals down, but after installing some confidence in his players, Robertson thinks his side were the better of the two in the second half. It was in the second half Town scored their only goal of the game thanks to Sammy Hallsworth who opened her account for the club.
“We were a bit disheartened at half time, but once we spoke about having a bit more confidence and relaxing a bit more the second half we were much the better team,” he added “Overall as a team performance if we get that every week we won’t be far off.”
Town Ladies are back in action on Wednesday when they host Cardiff City.
