WESTLECOT’S Katy Smith featured in her first junior U25 international for England against Wales and Scotland at Islwyn IBC in Gwent.

Smith played two for skip Paige Dennis (skip), losing 22-16 to Wales skip Gemma Amos.

On Sunday, Smith’s rink lost out to Scotland Emma McIntyre 17-15, with sister Lucy, who started as a reserve, also drafted in to play against Wales, her rink skipped by Chelsea Tomlin winning 29-14.

Scotland won the international with 12 points, followed by England on 10 and Wales on two.

Meanwhile, Lucy lost out 21-20 to Banbury’s Carole Gallety in the National Championships Ladies singles semi-final, played at Oxford C&C.

On Sunday, the Smith sisters play Galletly and Banbury clubmate Kath Hawes in the area pairs semi-final, also at Oxford C&C (10am).

Westlecot trio Jayne Croston, Wendy Anderson and Janet Willis beat Galletly’s team 18-15 in the area 14 triples semi-finals and will now face a final against either Nora Holder’s team from Desborough (Maidenhead) or Kylie Hampton’s triple from Egham (Surrey) on a date to be arranged.

The fours of Jayne Croston, Val Coles, Wendy Anderson and Janet Willis lost 17-16 to Banbury’s four skipped by Galletly on the extra end, having held a two-shot lead playing the last end.

In the Area 14 men’s national singles championships, Westlecot’s Steve Remington reached the area semi-finals and played Paul Maynard (Foxhill, Aylesbury) at Oxford City & County (10am), losing out 21-12.

Chris Cheesley and Neil Smith are through to the area pairs final after defeating Brackley’s Alan Dunkley and his partner 17-16.

The Area 14 Over 60s fours semi-final between John Thomas (Westlecot) and Ray Rouse (Foxhill, Aylesbury) has been arranged at Oxford C&C next Wednesday (February 22) Kevin Embling, Ian Jefferies and Neil Smith have reached the area triples semi-finals and were due to face Dunkley and his trio from Brackley at Oxford C&C last night.

Dunkley’s team also face Embling, Jefferies, Smith and Chris Cheesley in the area fours semi-finals tomorrow at Oxford C&C.

Janet Willis and Wendy Anderson have qualified for the area final in the O60s pairs and will play either a team from Desborough, led by Eileen Devonald-Batt or Doreen Hankin, from Egham.

In the Area 14 family pairs competition, Tom Pittuck and dad Barry have to play Graham Hatherall and his son Craig in the area semi-finals, with the winners advancing to the final against Andy Knapper and his father from Whiteknights, Reading.
