GRANGE Junior School were crowned champions after a day of high quality action at the Ruskin Junior School six-a-side football tournament on Friday.

Grange were worthy winners on the day, having scored 33 goals and conceded just two on their way to the title.

They opened their group B account with a 3-0 triumph over Goddard Park, followed by a comfortable 9-0 win against Ruskin D.

Consecutive 3-0 victories over Moredon A and Westrop followed, before Grange concluded their group action with a 5-0 win over Ruskin B.

Moredon B were swept aside 6-0 in the quarter-finals, but Even Swindon provided a much sterner test in the semi finals, as Grange scraped through 1-0.

They beat hosts Ruskin A 3-1 in the tournament decider to conclude a run of eight unbeaten matches.

Ruskin A also enjoyed a 100 per cent record on their way to the final, beating teams from Penhill, Moredon, Even Swindon, Orchid Vale and Goddard Park, as well as two other sides from Ruskin.

Twelve teams from eight different schools took part in the event, comprised of pupils in years three, four and five.

The tournament allows teachers to beginning planning their squads for the new season starting in September.

Luke Sharps from Swindon Town Football Club In The Community presented the trophies, including the Most Valuable Player award, which went to Ruskin C's Lewis Hinds, who scored 13 of his team's 16 goals.
