ALUN Rossiter has called on his Swindon Robins side to keep banking the points during a busy home schedule as they look to lock down top spot in the SGB Premiership.

Swindon made it 13 successive wins with victory at home to King’s Lynn Stars on Monday and are back at the Abbey Stadium tonight when they host Somerset Rebels – the second of five meetings in front of their own fans in the space of 11 days.

The Robins currently sit atop the standings as the season enters its final furlong, just two points ahead of Belle Vue Aces, so Rossiter knows standing firm on home shale is likely to be crucial to their chances to securing top seeding for the play-offs.

“It is a hectic time at the moment and I am going to calm all the guys down and make sure they are ready to go for the next one,” said Rossiter.

“It was a tight meeting on Monday and that will keep everybody level headed but I have got no worries about the guys, their feet are all firmly on the ground.

“It was just one of those nights where certain things didn’t go our way but that’s life and we still got the win.

“We have got a lot of home meetings, which is good, but we have got to make sure we make them all count.

“As long as we win by one, it doesn’t really matter because at the end of the day, we are in the driving seat at the moment.”

Swindon supporters flocked to the Abbey Stadium in their droves on Monday, with a crowd of around 3,000 in attendance despite the meeting being broadcast live on BT Sport.

Ticket prices were cut to £5 for the clash against King’s Lynn and Rossiter hopes it has whet the appetite for fans to back their boys in this evening’s fixture against Somerset too.

“If they won’t come for £5, they won’t come for anything but hopefully there were people there on Monday that haven’t been for a long time and thought: ‘I enjoyed that, maybe I will come on Thursday’,” said Rossiter.

“That was the thinking behind it and hopefully we can have another good crowd on Thursday.”
