ALUN Rossiter has warned his Swindon Robins side that they have won nothing yet as they look to continue their record-breaking run in today’s Bank Holiday double-header.

The Robins set a new club record for consecutive victories on Thursday night when they made it 14 wins in a row in the SGB Premiership with a 57-35 success at home to Somerset Rebels.

Battle resumes between the Robins and the Rebels at the Abbey Stadium this evening, although Rossiter’s troops must first negotiate the threat of Leicester Lions who they face first up in today’s twin meeting.

Swindon’s stunning run of form has carried them to the top of the table with just five regular season fixtures remaining, although Rossiter says it is only where they end up at the conclusion of the play-offs that matters.

“All we can do is keep going. I keep saying it but there is no point getting carried away because when the play-offs start, everyone is back on a level playing field,” said Rossiter.

“I won the league when I was in charge at Coventry in 2010 but Poole had topped the table by 20 points and were 26 clear of us.

“They led the whole way but we managed to beat them in the final, so we can’t take our foot off the gas.

“We have got to make sure we are ready for Monday because it is going to be tough with two meetings. We have to make sure we are dialled in.”

Rossiter admits racing two meetings back-to-back is an unusual prospect for his side and the primary target will be to tame the Lions first and foremost.

“All we can do is turn up for the first one and try to win that,” said Rossiter.

“It’s a long night and it can be quite tiring but there are enough gaps in between races to mean the riders should be alright and they have normally all got two bikes with them, so they will be fine.

“Hopefully the track isn’t as slick as it was on Thursday night but I will have a chat with Ronnie (Russell, track curator) and I am sure he will fix it up.”

Swindon are set to be without both of their regular reserves once more for today’s meetings with Sheffield’s Todd Kurtz and Edinburgh’s Mitchell Davey coming to guest.

Zach Wajtknecht’s season was ended midway through the year and he was joined on the sidelines last week by Bradley Wilson-Dean following a couple of heavy crashes in quick succession.

“It’s too early for Bradley. It is still early days with his injury and I think he will need a couple of weeks to recuperate,” added Rossiter.

“There is no good having him back if he isn’t right. I’d rather save him for the play-offs.”
