SWINDON made it two wins from two in the GoCrea8 League Conference North as they edged to victory against county rivals Devizes on Saturday.

The home side raced into a 2-0 lead inside the first 15 minutes, Tom Goldsmith diving full length to get on a cross from Chris Parsons before a Tom Wickens shot flew into the corner of the goal.

Devizes grabbed a penalty corner goal out of the blue but, from the pushback, Swindon went on the hunt for another goal and Chris Parsons grabbed his first league goal of the season, smashing home from close range.

Swindon had to defend strongly in the second half as Devizes attacked with renewed purpose, although they did conceded another penalty-corner goal.

Thomas Lentschner hit the post late on but skipper Goldsmith said: “It was a good three points. We dominated and we could and should have scored more.”

  •  SWINDON Ladies sit on top of the West Clubs League Premier Division 2A after a 2-1 win at Cheltenham on Saturday.

The visitors started well but were unable to break the defence and against the run of play, Cheltenham broke and scored despite a heroic defensive attempt from Charlie Watson, who got the last touch on the ball before it went into the net.

Swindon quickly regrouped and were level by half-time thanks to a well-worked short corner routine, called by coach Kerry Baker, and smashed home by Angela Cooke.

In a dominant second-half display, the winner came when Lynsey Wall took the rebound and slammed the ball home.
