PURTON skipper Aaron Lee hopes to build on a ‘professional’ performance against Corsham last Saturday when his side entertain Warminster this weekend.

Lee’s troops cruised to an eight-wicket win against Corsham in WEPL Wiltshire last time out, after bowling out the home side for 117 in less than 35 overs.

Although Tom Bowler and Neil Little knocked off the majority of Corsham’s total, Lee praised his side’s team performance, adding it will benefit them in what he anticipates to be a tough fixture against Warminster.

He said: “It was a really pleasing performance, a professional one and a much better team performance.

“The way the team fielded in the first half was fantastic.

“This Saturday will be a big test for us.

“Warminster have dropped down a league, but they are a strong team.

“They didn’t have a great result against us last year, so they’ll be keen to rectify that.”

While Lee believes Purton are more than capable of matching every team in the division, he admits a lack of strength in depth could prove costly later on in the season.

But gaps in the first team have opened the door for some of the club’s younger players, including 14-year-old Calum Flay, who has earned six wickets already this season.

“We’re always confident that if we can get a regular team out featuring our more recognised players, we will be able to compete with anyone,” said Lee.

“We’re not arrogant enough to say we’re the best in the league, but we can match every team.”

Elsewhere in the division, Swindon travel to Marshfield, while Royal Wootton Bassett face Devizes.

Lechlade are also in action at Cheltenham in the Premier Two Glos/Wilts.
