JAMIE Devitt appears set to remain at Carlisle United next season, despite Phil Brown declaring his interest in the winger to the Advertiser this week.

Devitt, who played under Brown at Hull City between 2008 and 2010, has spent the last two seasons in Cumbria where he has notched 10 goals from 74 appearances.

The 27-year-old’s contract at Carlisle was set to expire this summer, however the possibility of Town snapping up the Irishman appear to have been lost.

Carlisle boss John Sheridan told the News and Star that no contact has been made by Town – or any club – regarding Devitt, who seems part of United’s long-term plans.

Sheridan said: “Jamie (Devitt) is our player, he’s under contract, we’ve had no contact from anyone and he’s very much part of our plans going forward.”

Sheridan’s words follow confirmation that Southend United have reached an agreement with former Swindon Town striker Simon Cox, another player that Brown declared his interest in.

Cox signed a year-long deal with the Shrimpers, with the option of another 12 months, to kill off any likelihood of him returning to Wiltshire.
