SWINDON Town defender Joe Romanski has the tools available to build a successful footballing career, according to his manager Phil Brown.

Romanski followed in the footsteps of winger Matt Taylor and new recruit Jermaine McGlashan by signing up to Town’s 2018-19 campaign after making his debut for Town against Grimsby in April.

And Brown, who this week welcomed his squad back for pre-season training, believes the teenager has a promising future on the field ahead of him.

He said: “Joe (Romanski) is a good kid.

“He’s certainly one that has a good future, a good career, ahead of him.

“I watched him walk with the squad at Southampton Solent University and I’m hoping for good things for him.

“He’s only young, a lot of these kids are brand new and it’s going to be his first pre-season of hard work – men’s work we call it.

“It will be interesting to see how he copes with it, and that’s part of the world we live in – playing football week in week out on a regular basis.

“He’s equipped for it, I think if he gets through this pre-season with what we’re throwing at them I think he’ll be ready to play a big part in next season.”

Town spent their first two days of training at Southampton Solent University where a series of tests were conducted to benefit the club’s preparation ahead of the first competitive league game of the season at home to Macclesfield on Saturday, August 4.

Brown’s men returned to Wiltshire on Wednesday for their first training session on the field before Cirencester host the club’s opening pre-season friendly on Tuesday, July 3.

Brown said: “The staff at the university were telling me it’s one of the most important and busiest times for them to get on with some work and testing.

“It’s a two-way street. The university will get a lot from the results, and in the same way we’ll be getting knowledge from the results so we know what we need to work on.

“It’s a win-win situation for us and Solent University for sure.”
