SWINDON Town boss Phil Brown says the club continue to play a waiting game with regards to new faces.

Speaking after the club’s 4-1 friendly win over Swindon Supermarine, the Town manager says he is working hard to add further reinforcements.

Brown has made no secret of his desire to bulk up his defensive options and is waiting to hear from a Premier League manager over a potential loan addition.

“I’m not quite focussed on a number nine, 10 or a seven at the moment,” said Brown.

“I want a number five if the truth be known. The biggest positive from the Supermarine game was getting 90 minutes into Dion Conroy and 70 minutes into Olly Lancashire.

“Whether that is enough for them to start next week is a different question.

“There are just one or two defenders I want to get done. I am hoping, fingers crossed, that one will be joining us on Monday.

“I’m waiting for a Premier League manager to call over the weekend. We are playing a waiting game because he is playing in their last pre-season game.”

Brown admits his primary concern is finding defensive cover, with Lancashire and Conroy both working their way back to full fitness.

Former Celtic striker Marc Antoine Fortune caught the eye of both Brown and the supporters at the Webbswood Stadium and the manager would like to see the 37-year-old join the club.

“I would like to get it done. The chairman (Lee Power) isn’t here but is really impressed with the pedigree of the player,” he added.

“We just wanted to have a look at him and his fitness levels. He hasn’t been working for anybody. He was promised a deal at Southend United but it didn’t manifest itself.

“He’s an angry man at the moment. He is such a professional and conducts himself impeccably off the field of play.

“A lot of the younger players can learn from him. I think he is a good player and a good person to have around. He has Champions League experience, so to have that in the second division would be great.

“He was fantastic for me at Southend so I would like to get him on board and hopefully the chairman will agree with me.”

Tow are now a week away from their season opener at home to Macclesfield Town, but have one more friendly, facing Queens Park Rangers behind closed doors on Tuesday.
