SWINDON Storm improved their record in BAFA Division Two South to 3-3 after their second comprehensive victory over Hastings Conquerors this season.

Storm bounced back from a disappointing result against London Blitz B to claim a 69-0 victory over the rivals from Sussex – the second time this season Storm have put 60 points up against Hastings following the 64-0 win at home in May.

Running back Dan Throne starred with five scores, while quarterback Iain Eastham threw four touchdowns and Ryan Swain also ran into the endzone to complete the 10-touchdown rout.

In a near faultless performance for Storm, kicker Adam Day dispatched five efforts through the uprights, while Eastham claimed two extra-point catches and Swain ran in twice for two points following touchdowns.

Defensive coordinator Rich Westley praised the character of his side as the fringe players made a sizable contribution in their weekend victory.

Westley said: “Again, we’ve bounced back well. Everything came together, and we gelled really well on the day.

“We took over 30 guys, so it was good to have the numbers back.

“We were also able to give some of the guys who have been here for a lot of the season and not necessarily played much some time out on the field as well.

“That was good for them to get some real on-field experience in a game situation.”

Storm did the majority of the damage against Conquerors in the first half, putting up 40 points before heading back into the locker room.

With the score at such an emphatic margin, the rolling clock came into effect and Storm were only able to add 14 points in the third period and 15 in the final quarter.

With a four-week break now until their next game, Westley has targeted a return to full fitness for the majority of his squad as well as continuing to improve morale, something he said started on the three-hour drive back to Swindon on Sunday.

Westley said: “It was 40-0 at half-time and what that does in British American Football rules is, it starts a rolling clock if you’re more than 35 points up.

“Because of that, it sped the game up and we were able to get back on the bus a bit earlier to make the long journey back.

“The journey back was good, it brought the team together and built relationships between the guys, so it was really good fun.”

Storm return to action on July 28 when they host division leaders London Blitz B at Supermarine.
