SWINDON'S Lucas Romanek continued his hot streak with two wins, a podium, and a fastest lap at Anglesey in the latest round of the Formula Ford Championship.

The 18-year-old did not have it all his own way across the weekend in North Wales but showed talent and maturity in his drives to move up to third in the overall season standings.

Romanek was struggling with his set-up during qualifying on Saturday but managed to secure fourth for race one behind Jordan Dempsey, Colin Queen, and Jamie Sharp.

The Swindon racer came out on top in an opening-lap tussle with Queen for third while Sharp regained the lead from Dempsey on lap two as a four-way scrap developed at the front.

Romanek eventually drove around the outside of Dempsey for second and then took first from Sharp at Rocket later in the lap. However, Sharp made the same move next time around to wrestle back the lead with two laps remaining.

On the final lap, Romanek drew alongside Sharp into Rocket once more and completed the move before fending his rival off through the last few corners to triumph by 0.120 seconds.

Despite the thrilling success, Romanek's Oldfield Motorsport team felt the car was still not properly aligned and improvements could be made for the following day.

Sunday's first race was shortened due to a red flag, with Romanek finishing second after a brave karting move on Queen during the final lap.

However, the result was taken from the last full lap and the 18-year-old was moved back to third place while still securing the fastest lap.

Romanek began the final race of the weekend in fifth after the grid was reversed, with Queen, Sharp and Dempsey behind him.

A fascinating start saw three different leaders on lap one and Murray Shepherd spin off before Romanek was forced to avoid rear-ending his team-mate, Brandon McCaughan by locking up and swerving around the incident.

Having settled back down, the Swindon racer cleared those in front and set about attempting to build as much of a lead as he could. Once he had hit the front, Romanek was never headed and set about building a two-second advantage until the line.

Reacting to his weekend, Romanek said: "the car hadn’t felt aligned properly, so getting two wins was a great result this weekend.

"I am so proud of the team, we worked so hard to get the wins. Now what we need to do is get in the workshop and work on the car in preparation for Snetterton."
