KYLE ANDERSON celebrated his 15th birthday in style by winning the area junior singles title, writes DAVE EATON.

The fine young Westlecot prospect edged past 18-year-old Wayne Snook (North Wilts) 2-1 in a tie breaker to take the Area 16 Under 25 Singles crown for the first time.

In the previous round Anderson had blasted away Thornbury's Chris Humphries 14-1 and 11-1 for a two sets to love victory, however, he found life much tougher against Snook in the final staged at Cotswold IBC (Stroud).

Anderson made a brilliant start to the match played over two sets of nine ends each.

He dominated the first set racing into a 10-0 lead after only five ends and going into an unassailable 11-1 lead after seven ends.

However, in the second set Snook hit back and it was a much closer affair with the lead fluctuating several times.

Anderson took a single on the first end but then dropped counts of 2, 2, 1 to trail 5-1. He hit back with a single and a maximum four on the sixth to lead 6-5.

Snook responded with a two and three to move 10-6 up. Anderson therefore needed a four on the last to force a draw and win the match but only managed a single shot to send the game into a deciding best-of-three-leg tie breaker.

Anderson edged ahead on the first but Snook then won the next. The Westlecot youngster kept his nerve to draw shot with his third wood and then put in a blocker on line with his last to thwart Snook and claim the title.

Anderson now advances to the last 32 of the Under 25 Singles to be played at Lodden Vale (Basingstoke) on March 1 and 2.
