MARK Collier admits the referee had "no choice" but to abandon tonight's Southern Premier Division clash between Supermarine and Bedford Town at Hunts Copse.

Time was called after just 30 minutes as dense fog made play impossible and put the safety of the players at risk.

The fixture will have to be rearranged for a third time after the previous encounter between the sides was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Supermarine are back in action on Saturday when they entertain Mangotsfield United, looking to record a fourth successive league win.

Said Collier: "It was disappointing but I thought the referee got it right tonight. He let play go as long as he could but there's nothing you can do about the elements.

"It's frustrating for Bedford because they have travelled here twice now and not managed to play a game.

"We used the time afterwards to conduct a short training session so the players will be sharp come the weekend."

Wootton Bassett Town saw their hopes of silverware extinguished as they were crushed 4-1 by Cheltenham Saracens in the quarter finals of the SBJ Insurance Brokers Challenge Cup.

An Andrew Sherlock hat-trick and a Carl Griffiths strike gave the visitors a comfortable win, with Little grabbing a consolation for Bassett.

Fairford Town went down 2-0 to rivals Pegasus Juniors in their Premier Division clash at Cinder Lane, Chris Mortlock and an own goal sealing the points.
