DESPITE a ruthless attacking display that resulted in a 5-1 dismantling of AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, Swindon Town head coach Jody Morris singled out goalkeeper, Sol Brynn for particular post-match praise.

Brynn was beaten by Aaron Pierre’s early header at Plough Lane before making a handful of crucial saves and denying Ali Al-Hamadi one-on-one to allow Swindon’s attackers to seal the three points.

Luke Jephcott netted a first-half brace either side of Jacob Wakeling’s looping header as Swindon roared back before the break.

Tom Clayton’s first goal for the club around the hour mark knocked any stuffing out of a rudderless Wimbledon, and Pierre’s red card for handling on the line teed up substitute Ronan Darcy to score Town’s fifth from the spot in added time.

But in spite of the glut of goals, Morris called for people to remember the role his goalkeeper played in the win.

Morris said: “I think we’ve been in better control over previous games, we’ve maybe worked the ball and taken care of the ball a bit better. But we looked a threat, so the attacking players deserve credit.

“I also think a huge shout-out has to go to Sol [Brynn] in goal as well. The most disappointing thing for us in the game was our start to the second half.

“That’s basically the thing that we needed to improve on, because we started poorly in the first half, and we ended up starting even worse in the second.”

The key moments in the game, from Morris’ point of view, arrived early in the second half when Ali Al-Hamadi raced through on goal but saw the ball plucked off his toes by Brynn when aiming to reduce the deficit.

Moments later, a goalmouth scramble in the Swindon box ended not with the ball in the net, but in Brynn’s hands after the stopper scurried around the box to smother the Dons’ attempts.

Morris continued: “We were 3-1 up at the time, but that next goal was pivotal, I believe. If it wasn’t for Sol, we wouldn’t have had that gap still because he made two outstanding saves.

“Thankfully, when we had a poor spell today, Sol stood up to the test. The first 10-12 minutes of the second half was really poor, but we were then able to go and extend our lead, and it was a comfortable win in the end.

“I don’t forget moments like that at the start of the second half, where I thought Sol was outstanding.”
