A HAT-TRICK of golds for Zoe Large was just one of the stand-out performances among the club’s senior results at the Wiltshire Track and Field Championships in Swindon.

There were also victories in personal bests from sprinter Delleah Belgrave and England javelin ace Hannah Lewington among the haul of 13 senior and Under-20 titles at the County Ground on Saturday.

Belgrave shaved 0.02secs off her previous best to win the 100m in a legal time of 12.52secs - consequently going fifth in the south-west rankings. Belgrave also won bronze in the long jump.

Meanwhile, Lewington ended a two-year wait to eclipse her PB of 40.07 holding the 600G javelin with a mighty throw of 41.77m to climb to fifth in the UK as a first-year junior.

The success of the senior men’s section on road and cross country over the winter was transferred onto the track as they picked up four titles.

Matt Woodward was in a class of his own to win the 800m – and narrowly missed his PB when winning silver in the 400m - while Simon Byrne and Ben Lines added the senior 1500m and 5000m titles, with Lines dipping inside 16 minutes on the track for the distance for the first time.

Running as a guest in the 1500m, junior Fletcher Hart smashed his PB by over four seconds in chasing Byrne to the line.

Recent Swindon recruit Nathan Hackley again underlined what an asset he will be to the club as he won the U20s 800m in a PB and then added another PB with silver in the 400m.

Harry Woods broke nine minutes for the first time with 8:57.17 to win the 3000m – and also ran the 400m and 800m for a busy day’s work!

Sprinter Tye-Leo Stroud came away with two silvers and a PB in the 100m.

A fantastic total of 27 gold medals were won by the club’s young athletes.

Of that terrific haul, eight were won by just four athletes with two each for Al Virgilio, Oakley Hogan, Laila-Jae Belgrave and Ellie Charlesworth – so well done to them and their coaches.

Virgilio completed a remarkable double in the U15s 200m and 800m, clocking a PB in the former to underline his sheer speed around the track.

Oakley displayed his range of talents by winning the U15s shot and triple jump titles, recording personal bests in both disciplines. In the shot, he went over 10 metres for he first time with a huge best of 10.21m to leap to fourth in the south-west rankings.

Laila-Jae cleaned up in the U17s 100m and 80m hurdles events and Charlesworth's two golds came in the U13s high jump and javelin. Ellie was also runner-up in the 1500m with a PB, so a super day for her.

In addition to the 27 golds, the club’s young athletes were also prominent on the podium with a mass of silver and bronze medals; in fact 23 silvers and 24 bronzes for a grand total of 74 medals, which was likely the best haul for any club on the day.

There was also the impressive sight of a clean sweep of Harriers medals in two middle-distance races.

In the U17 women’s 800m, Faith Herring led the way with a sparkling PB of 2:27.80 to move into the top 10 of the south-west rankings, with Freya Davidse and Meredith Prosser completing the podium.

It was the same story in the U13 girls’ race with Elsie Scrase leading the way from Charissa Griffiths-Clack and Freya McMeeking.
