MALMESBURY’S Louis Harvey recorded his third second-place finish in three races last weekend at the MSVT Trackday Championship in Norfolk.

In the third round of the MSVT Trackday Championship, Harvey continued his fine form on the Snetterton 300 circuit with Pro-Am racing teammate, Jack Kemp.

Having never faced the three-mile circuit before, the 18-year-old had just 40 minutes to get up to speed.

Harvey showed his adaptability and class to set the pace for the other Class-C cars to follow heading into Saturday’s qualifying and race.

With temperatures reaching 30 degrees Celsius on race day, a lack of power steering in the cars would cause it to become an extremely physical challenge inside a boiling cockpit.

Kemp took the first stint in qualifying, and after a few laps was up to pace, so the pair knew they would be competitive going into the race.

Harvey took the second stint and, despite hitting traffic on the last two corners of his only flying lap, secured the team’s first pole-position start of the season.

With several other classes on track for the start of the main race, Kemp began 11th on the grid but first in the Class-C group.

Following a very busy start, Kemp dropped back to second but managed to keep the class leader in his sights for the entire first half of the race.

Once Harvey took over, the Wiltshire talent pushed as hard as he could. But with the soaring heat and the challenges of navigating through the back markers, he was unable to reel the leaders in and had to make do with second as he crossed the line.

Despite some disappointment at failing to snatch first back, Harvey and Kemp were consoled by the fact they had earned consecutive podiums and more points in the overall championship.

Saturday’s race was not the end of Harvey’s weekend, though, as both he and Kemp were given the opportunity to test at the Brands Hatch GP circuit on Monday.

The GP section of the Brands Hatch track is very limited for test days, and this was the only opportunity in preparation for their next race on the July 1.

Harvey said: “Getting the opportunity to drive on such a prestigious track was amazing and I cannot wait to race there in a few weeks’ time.”

Harvey now has his sights firmly set on the JCW Mini series for 2024. This series reaches a TV viewing audience of over 16 million on ITV and ITV4 with over 420,000 trackside spectators.
