FORMER Swindon Town goalkeeper Sol Brynn has agreed a season-long loan move to League One Leyton Orient.

The Middlesbrough man spent the entire 2022/23 campaign at Swindon and played almost 50 games - including each of the club's 46 League Two contests.

He will now link up with ex-Town manager Richie Wellens in east London after agreeing a move to last term's League Two champions.

There had been some discussion around Brynn potentially staying with Michael Carrick's first-team squad and fighting for a place in the Championship club's starting XI, but after Boro brought in Melbourne City goalkeeper Tom Glover late last week, it was decided playing another full season would be best for the 22-year-old's development.

Brynn - who was narrowly beaten by close friend Frazer Blake-Tracy for the Swindon Advertiser's Swindon Town Player of the Season award last term - joined Middlesbrough's academy aged nine and went on to enjoy loan spells at Darlington and Queen of the South prior to his Town spell.

After making a division-high 136 saves for Swindon, Brynn told Leyton Orient's media team: "I'm delighted to be here, it's been a long time coming and I'm buzzing it's finally completed.

"I played against Orient twice last year and they were unbelievable, I wanted to be a part of it.

"I'm always looking to test myself. I'm a shot-stopper and love making saves.

"I've heard a lot about Roycey [Simon Royce] and how good of a goalkeeping coach and a bloke that he is, and the gaffer's record speaks for himself."

Meanwhile, after Wellens' men secured another goalkeeper in Sam Howes last week, Orient's goalkeeping coach, Royce, said: "We're delighted that we've got Sol in.

"We've been chasing him for a while, and for him to want to come to us speaks volumes about what we're doing here.

"He had a fantastic season last year with Swindon, who didn't have the best year themselves. Sol's stats were at the top end of the division for goalkeepers, and he was always our number one target.

"Sol's had a good ten days training with his parent club Middlesbrough down in Portugal, so he's fit and ready and we can't wait to see him in action."

Brynn's first game for his new club could be this Friday as Orient take on Charlton Athletic in a pre-season friendly out in Marbella.
