SWINDON Harriers are celebrating a terrific weekend of results across the age groups.

The senior squad strengthened their challenge for promotion in Southern League Division Three West by winning the third match at Andover on Sunday, boasting a total of 28 individual wins and both women’s relay events.

The previous day at the Cardiff International Stadium, the club’s young athletes secured their place in the Regional Final of the UK Youth Development League Lower Age Midlands Premier Division.

And to further celebrate that success, it has been confirmed that Swindon will host that match on Saturday July 22 in what should be a fantastic day for the club.

The seniors' latest win means they head to Plymouth next month for the fourth and final match in pole position for promotion.

“It was a great result,” said Luke Byrne, who is one of the team managers along with Keeleigh Chapman and Rachel Moscrop.

“The women barely had any gaps in their team, incredible stuff again, and I think probably made the difference.”

The women notched up a superb tally of 15 individual wins, with Lydia Rogers (100m and long jump), Chloe Powell (3000m and B 1500), Katie New (javelin and B steeplechase), and junior, Isabelle Imeson (100m hurdles and B long jump) leading the way with two each.

The middle distances proved successful too, as teenagers Faith Herring and Khaya Swaine dominated the 800m with another U17 runner, Ella Spencer, winning the 1500 A event.

After Rachel Moscrop won the B 3000m, the women swept the board in the 800m, 1500m and 3000m while Katie New won the B 2000m steeplechase on top of her success in the javelin.

Ben McIntyre proved again he is a team manager’s dream as he piled up the points with four wins – 400m hurdles, 3000m steeplechase, B high jump and B javelin – plus a fourth in the 100m hurdles.

There were double wins in the pole vault from junior Tom Oram and teenager Chris James, with junior Sam Innes and McIntyre claiming maximum points in the javelin.

In the middle distances, the club swept the board. Simon Byrne and junior Fletcher Hart dominated the 800m while Matt Woodward and Luke earned maximum points in the 1500m. McIntyre and Luke Byrne then teamed up to win the 3000m steeplechase races.

There was also a double in the 100m from teenager Emmanuel Daramola and Flinn Roberts sprinting to victory.

Over in Cardiff, the club’s talented group of U15 girls throwers all but cleaned up across the various events.

In the hammer, Holly Scott and Evie Wilkins took maximum points, a feat that was repeated in the discus with Lucy Bull and Evie again.

In the javelin, Bull claimed another win with Molly Lyne second in the B, while in the shot, Holly and Jess Zirger finished second and fifth, respectively.

The U13 boys’ sprinters also had a great day led by Ethan Bryon, who claimed a hat-trick of individual wins in the 75m, 150m, and long jump before ending the day by anchoring the squad of Kurtis Osei-Ofosu, Tom Robinson and Jayden Messiah to victory in the sprint relay.

Elsie Scrase and Ellie Charlesworth did the double in the U13 girls’ javelin, with Elsie throwing two metres past her previous PB to win the A event.

“A word also for Esha Bhalerao, who summed up the great spirit of the team with her performance in the under 13 girls 70m hurdles,” said joint team manager Martin Smith.

“She really clattered into the second hurdle and fell heavily but she got straight back up, dusted herself down and finished fifth in the B race to much encouragement and cheers from her team-mates.

“She had a few bruises and scrapes but such was her determination that she still wanted to run the 800m afterwards, finishing third in the non-scoring race.

“I know I have said this before, but that is the sort of spirit we have in this team. Everyone steps up and has a go and as team managers we couldn’t ask for any more.”
