A SCORCHING personal best by Jonathan Dumbutshena was among the highlights from the Swindon Harriers at the South West Counties Track & Field Championships at the Exeter Arena last weekend.

Dumbutshena won the under 15 boys’ 200m in a time of 22.68secs, his first time under 23 seconds and easily beating his previous best of 23.7secs.

Unfortunately, the latter will remain his legal best as his time on Sunday was assisted by a following wind of 3.4mps, well over the limit.

Dumbutshena's success was one of five golds won by the club’s athletes. Two titles came in the 800m with Al Virgilio (coach Kevin Buttle) winning the U15s race and Elliot Doughty (coach Howard Moscrop) claiming the senior men’s title for his best win of the season.

Laila-Jae Belgrave won the U17s 80m hurdles, also adding a silver in the 100m, while Lucy Bull won the U15s javelin.

Holly Scott (coach Alan Brown) wasn’t quite at her best but still came away with two silver medals in the U15s hammer and shot.

In the U17s men, Archie Kinneir (coach Alan Brown) won silver in the hammer while there were bronze medals for Arthur Widdows (800m, coach John Dill) and Ted Hiscock (javelin, coach Alan Brown).

Oakley Hogan (coach Alan Brown) won bronze in the U15s shot and was fourth in the discus and shot.

Sprinter Ethan Bryon (coaches Craig Scott plus Rachel and Phil Smith) was below par after illness so had to settle for silver in the 100m and bronze medals in the 200m and long jump.

Jesse Bryant (coach John Dill) and Finley Kuklinski (coach Kevin Buttle) both impressed in the U13s 800m, winning silver and bronze respectively.

There were also silver medals for Toby Wood (coach Buttle) and Lewis Belgrave in the U13s sprint hurdles and high-jump events.

In the women’s events, Amelia Brandon (coach Tony Jackson) claimed silver in the senior 100m hurdles plus placed fifth in the one-lap hurdles in a PB - Delleah Belgrave was third in the U20s long jump.

Freya McMeeking (coaches Gunning & Hughes) clocked a PB of 29.48secs for a fine third in the U13s 200m, and despite racing into a minus 1.7 wind, just missed her PB by 0.06secs as she clocked 14.16secs for fourth.

Lottie Harding (coach Kay Prosser) ran a PB of 13.50secs for bronze in the U13s 70m hurdles, and there was also a bronze for Elsie Scrase (coaches Gunning & Hughes) in the 800m.

Elsewhere, Simon Byrne slashed 25 seconds off his PB in the 3000m with 8mins 13.32secs at the British Milers Club Grand Prix at Birmingham University, while clubmate and Matt Woodward won the 800m F race in a PB of 1:53.26.
