Swindon Harriers runners had a remarkable day at the Wiltshire Cross Country Championships, winning every medal across the under-13s category.

Taking place at Bath University, Finley Byrne and Ellie Charlesworth both took home gold medals for their marvellous runs in the boys and girls under-13s races respectively, with the teams at large showing an incredibly impressive performance that holds real promise for the future.

There were four more Harriers runners on those two podiums, as James Mayneord and Dylan Necrews came home second and third in the boys' race, with three more Harriers coming in the next three spots, and Charissa Griffiths-Clack and Freya McMeeking also finishing in the silver and bronze medal spots in the girls' race.

Coach Kevin Buttle said: “Finley is a smashing lad and works very hard.

“He has got great pedigree (his dad is senior runner Simon Byrne) and I think the pair of them are having a nice competition to see who wins the most medals!

“But Simon is very supportive and lets me get on with it.”

Debbie Gunning added of the girls’ performances: “They have all been training well and consistently this winter.

“They work well and encourage each other. Pippa (Wall) is now getting used to training with the group and has raced very well in her age group.”

The under-13 boys were not done with locking out the top six spots, as Toby Wood finished eighth, Finley Kuklinski ninth, and Max Necrews in 13th.

In the under-17 women’s race, Eloise Foster won the bronze medal with Ella Spencer fourth while in the U15s Molly Lyne placed 25th overall. Harry Burdekin was 16th in the U15s race.

In the senior women’s race, there were two Harriers in action led home by Emma Hines in 22nd place overall and third veteran over 45 with India Ibbotson 58th overall.
