A League Two supercomputer has projected Swindon Town’s struggles in League Two to continue to the end of the season.

According to 1,000 simulations of the League Two run-in, Swindon look set to set a new low bar for their league finishes in the Football League as their dismal form since an early promising start to the season.

Data analysts at BonusCodeBets have used analysis and historical form data to project how the end of the season will go, and they have Gavin Gunning’s side winning just one and drawing one of their remaining seven matches.

Town still have Notts County, AFC Wimbledon, and Morecambe to visit the County Ground this season, as well as away trips to Sutton United, Barrow AFC, Walsall, and Grimsby Town, but the supercomputer does not foresee them enjoying many of their afternoons in April as the season draws to a close.

This continuation of their difficult run will see them fall further and end the season below Salford City in 20th place, beating their previous lowest finish in the fourth division of 17th place under Ken Beamish during the 1983/84 season and with 14 fewer points than that team achieved.

This means that after beginning the season with a nine-match unbeaten streak, in the remaining 37 games of the season, Swindon would have earned just 32 points and won another eight matches in that time.

There will be no real fear of relegation during the final weeks of the season as despite their lowly league position, Colchester United are also predicted to continue to struggle and will be relegated with 37 points. Steve Cotterill completing Forest Green Rovers’ great escape to stay up by a single point, leaving Town with an 11-point cushion over the relegation zone.

Sutton United will also remain in the bottom two and slip back into the National League after three seasons in the fourth tier, finishing three points from safety.

At the other end of the table, Mansfield Town will continue their march to the league title, bringing up 90 points for the whole campaign with Stockport County and Wrexham AFC also gaining automatic promotion to League One.

The play-offs will remain as they are according to the supercomputer, setting up ties between Crewe Alexandra and Barrow, as well as a mouth-watering face-off in the post-season between AFC Wimbledon and Milton Keynes Dons. The Dons managing to secure seventh spot on goal difference ahead of Morecambe.
