Swindon Town are interested in signing Australian A-League ace Raphael Borges Rodrigues during the summer transfer window.

According to Pete O’Rourke, transfer correspondent for Football Insider, Swindon would like to sign the Netherlands-born winger, who is currently plying his trade for Macarthur FC in Australia.

Raphael, as he is known, was born in the Netherlands but has represented Australia at under-20 and under-23 level, having moved to Adelaide at the age of five.

Having come through the ranks at Melbourne City, the club owned by City Football Group, who also own Manchester City, the 20-year-old made the switch to their A-League rivals last summer, where he has scored six goals and registered two assists across 32 games in all competitions this season.

Town would be facing strong competition for the youngster, with Rangers and Coventry City currently leading the race for Raphael’s signature having tracked his development for some time.

According to O’Rourke, Clem Morfuni is hoping to use his Australian connections to beat the other club to the winger’s signature.

Aaron Drinan is currently the only forward Swindon have contracted for next season, although Paul Glatzel’s option is expected to be taken and Sean McGurk is presently in negotiations with the club.
