STEF Kuczynski breathed a huge sigh of relief after his Purton side finally saw off plucky Trowbridge Town in the Corsham Print Senior Cup.

The Red House outfit had to come from behind twice, before three goals in extra time rounded off a deserved 5-2 success.

Confident of victory before the game, Kuczynski admitted he became increasingly concerned as time ticked away.

“We just missed so many chances, it was unbelievable really,” he said.

“I reckon we must have had about six one-on-ones in the first half alone, but we squandered all of them.

“Trowbridge scored first and then they got their second on the stroke of half time.

“We were much better in the second half though, and we thoroughly deserved to be level.

“It turned out to be a pretty comfortable win in the end, but before that I have to admit it was looking like one of those days.”

Dave Rendell hit a hat-trick for Purton, while Gavin Allen and Colin Yates were also on target to send the hosts into round three.

With their three Premier Division title rivals all winning in the league, Kuczynski said it was vital to record a victory, albeit in the cup.

“We just want to win as many games as we can, so I was glad to get through on Saturday,” he said.

“We have played most of the top teams in the league now, so we should have one or two easier games coming up.

“It is going to be an interesting few weeks in the run up to Christmas.”

New College thrashed FC Chippenham Youth 6-2 to move just one point adrift of Purton with two games in hand.

Melksham pulled level with Purton after a 6-0 win over Westside, while Wroughton continued their recent revival with a 2-1 triumph at Shrewton.

There were a couple of shock results in Division One, with leaders SKS Blyskawica on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline at Chalke Valley.

Blunsdon United grabbed their first win since September, coming from a goal down to beat Swindon Nalgo 4-2.

Liam Byfield finished off a flowing move to put Nalgo ahead before Craig Green levelled for Blunsdon early in the second half.

The visitors then clicked into gear, scoring three times in a 10-minute spell. Jamie Hall netted twice and Steve Townsend made it 4-1.

Aaron Hughes scored straight from a corner but it proved nothing more than a consolation for Nalgo.

Minety thrashed Lower Stratton 5-0 in the only other game to be played in the division.
